Job Description - Account Handler

General Outline of Role

The Group department provides insurance cover for a variety of leisure activities including Community and Tenants Associations, Youth Clubs, Private Tuition Classes and other group organisations.  It is a flexible policy which allows clients to select the precise level of cover they require. 

The department is staffed by the Operations Manager and two Account Handlers.  The successful candidate for this role will have small scale underwriting or delegated scheme handling experience, commercial awareness and a rigorous approach to maintaining the smooth functioning of the back office.

Key responsibilities
  • To deal with day to day new business administration, including providing and following up on quotations, sending out proposal forms and issuing policy documentation
  • To deal with day to day renewal administration, including issuing reminders, dealing with queries, preparing renewal documentation and cancellation routines
  • To ensure that all documentation is checked as directed by the head of department
  • To deal with technical queries both verbally and in writing
  • To ensure that departmental banking is completed in a timely manner
  • To develop and maintain good working relationships with clients and insurers
  • To maintain  a “bible” of up to date systems and procedures for the Groups account, including copies of all current standard letters and policy documentation
  • To keep updated about our target markets.  Be aware of any relevant new legislation and competitors’ products and suggest changes/improvements as appropriate.
  • Suggesting and evaluating opportunities for further expansion of the Group account
  • Occasional attendance at exhibitions
  • Ensuring compliance with processes and procedures as detailed in the Office Manual
  • To be aware of, and act within, the limit and extent of your individual authority.
  • To Treat Customers Fairly at all times in accordance with FSA requirements
Skills & Knowledge required
  • Sound commercial insurance experience essential (liability, property, legal expenses, material damage etc.)  - ideally dealing with Schemes
  • Proven experience of working in an underwriting or underwriting agency  or delegated broker environment ideally dealing with liability or commercial property
  • Good working knowledge of computer packages, including Word, Excel and databases
